MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Moving to Atlanta, GA, with my daughter MimiJohnsondotnet was smooth. I am getting used to the cold weather but I miss the warmth of Florida, every day.  I want to assure you all that the work we do will continue.  We’re planning great things for 2014, including the submission of our 4th compilation CD to the Grammy’s this summer.  If any of you are members of The Recording Academy, I need you to let me know ASAP! because we will need your votes to get this CD nominated in several categories.

It is with GREAT pleasure that I welcome our newest members #254 Joanne Togati and #255 Jennifer Beckles!!!  In 2013, we increased our membership by 55 wonderful musicians and supporters.  Note that we are still raising funds for our Women in Music Series to take place in Delray Beach in the Spring.  Donate to this effort at www.gofundme.com/womeninmusicseries.  Let’s make this happen!

I want to say a big THANK YOU to all who attended our Holiday Party at Maggiano’s.  The food was superb and it was such a pleasure to break bread with so many of our loving members, including Board Members Lorna Lesperance (President), Cleve Bryant (V.P.), Mimi Johnson (Secretary), and Elena Correia (Treasurer).  I loved seeing Priscilla Dames, Dianne Wright, Linford and Kathy Ellis of ATR Disc that manufactured our four compilation CDs so beautifully.  Also, Anita Havel, Paulette Dozier, and Jenny Lopez attended.  Big hug to our special guests Lisa Keita, Nancy Boyle, Michael Baum, and P. Carmen Rocker.

Please mark your calendar for Monday, March 24, 2014 @ 7 p.m., when we will have our 7th Anniversary and 4th CD Release Party, scheduled to take place at Soyka, 5556 NE 4th Court, Miami, FL 33137.  If anything changes, I’ll be sure to let you know in plenty of time.

Welcome to our new member Joanne Togati, who released her new CD at Van Dyke’s on Miami Beach, on Sunday, December 29, 2013!

For our Past V.P. Stan Alston, 2013 has been a great year.  He completed a year as a radio personality at 88five college radio with a listening audience from the UK, Germany, France, and just picked up a few listeners in China. His articles are published in Old City Life, Thunder Roads Bikers Magazine.  He toured the USA with the Main Ingredient and Cuba Gooding, Sr. and finally did Las Vegas!  2014 is looking good with a possible gig in China, a few new musical projects, and a possible major article in The Baltimore Times and Who’s Who on TV1.  Also, he will release his third poetry book and first novel, in 2014.
